Welcome to the Houghton WI
Houghton WI is a member of the Test Valley Group of the Hampshire Federation of WIs. It was founded in 1918, in the very early days of the WI movement, and so we’re looking forward to our centenary in 2018!
We meet in The Houghton Village Hall at 7.30pm on the 3rd Monday of every month except August (and the second Monday in December, so as not to clash with Christmas!). At nearly every meeting we have a speaker and the topics covered are extremely varied – everything from wildlife and history to travel and ecology – we try and include subjects to cover all our members’ interests. Importantly, we also take it in turns to provide refreshments at the meetings, and our suppers are always very enjoyable!
As well as the monthly meetings we have outings to gardens or historic houses or other places of interest, a Book Club which meets in members’ homes, and a Lunch Club which samples the fare of local pubs and restaurants. We also have a Walking Group, which is rather weather dependent! – we walked the whole Clarendon Way, in easy sections, and are currently trying to complete the Test Way.
We also take part in Group and County competitions in Darts and Skittles, as well as the annual County Quiz. We currently have 21 members, and visitors are always welcome to come to any of our meetings. The current programme can be found on our page on the Hampshire WI website or look on this site’s Calendar of Events.
