Welcome to the Houghton & Bossington Village Design Statement
A group of volunteers from across the village, chaired by Tom Graham, is putting together a Village Design Statement for Houghton & Bossington, in a process which has included consultation with villagers. A Village Design Statement contains a set of recommended design guidelines for all building work in a village, based on careful analysis of the character and qualities of the village. Its purpose is to help control development so that the village’s essential characteristics are maintained.
A Village Design Statement does not address whether development may take place; it addresses what villagers would like new buildings and their surroundings to look like, if building work does take place. It is primarily about building design. When finalised and approved as a ‘Supplementary Planning Document’ by Test Valley Borough Council, it will have formal status in the planning system.
The Village Design Statement is now at its final drafting stage. A copy will be available here.
