Houghton WI News for October 2014 Meeting
Twenty members of the WI and their guests spent an enthralling evening listening to and watching Fiona Evans as she decorated a pumpkin cake. She demonstrated her amazing skills in cake art, with attention to fine detail in everything she created from tiny hedgerow berries to sprays of flowers. Many people in Houghton have seen Fiona’s cakes, made for special occasions, but it was wonderful to see how much care and dedication she puts into her creations.
Three well behaved Labradors and one mischievous Border Terrier, plus 6 members of the walking group spent a sunny morning on a 5 mile circular route at Farley.
The darts team have won their quarter finals and are now into to semi final play off – well done to the team Sherfield English hosted the Group Autumn Evening where Houghton WI won the competition for a stained glass window. Our Secretary, Julie Harwood, once again produced a beautiful piece if artwork – a lantern which depicted the seasons on all four sides.
Our next meeting will be on MONDAY 17 NOVEMBER at 7.30. The speaker that evening will be Jim Pascoe, inspiring us with a talk on Italy by Day and Night. It could be time to think about a holiday to Italy next year. The Book Club will be meeting to discuss Case Histories by Kate Atkinson. These are always fun evenings in a relaxed environment hosted in members homes.
On 8th December there will be a Christmas Meeting where we will be entertained by Ian Kirk, a member of the Magic Circle and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. We will provide an American Supper, a raffle and Christmas sales table. This event is open members and friends of the WI, and following the great success last year we would like to invite you to join us.
Do contact our Secretary, Julie Harwood on 01264 810314, if you would like further details.
